World’s Biggest Problems
1. Clean water
Access to clean water around the world is scarce. Water, especially in the Middle East has become a commodity equal to oil.
A solution for this problem might be funding for scientific research into natural economical ways to filter water.
2. Unemployment
Even though the economy is regaining its rigor, unemployment is still a huge problem that causes inequality and tension between citizens.
Economists everywhere agree that a solution to this problem would have to come from creating more jobs, whether it be private sector or government funded job creation.
3. Hunger
The UN estimates that about 1in 9 people go hungry each day. While most of this is happening in underdeveloped countries there is still hunger in developed countries as well. The price of food is skyrocketing leaving the poor unable to eat.
One solution for this would be to share. It's as simple as kindergarten manners, if you don't need it share it. A lot of people have more than their share of food.
4. Separation of Classes
The poorer are becoming poorer and the richer are becoming richer. 95% of the worlds wealth is owned by 1% of people. The amount of power that leaves these people is dangerous to say the least. Between running the political front and owning the highest corporate power, the top 1% basically runs the world.
The solution for this is not a simple one. My very bare suggestion would be to tax the richest who do not contribute at least 30% of their wealth to bettering the lives of those they basically are in charge of.
5. Health
The need for cures for the most deadly diseases remain unfound. It seems we have the capacity through science to tackle some of the most dangerous diseases, but for some reason we have yet to find a cure.
I believe that more government funding needs to be allocated to cancer fighting organizations who are focused on a cure. It's also essential that we educate people on proper eating and detoxifying to protect ourselves from these diseases.
6. Terrorists
America seems to have taken a back seat with a bowl of popcorn to watch the terrorism in this world unfold before us. We are the strongest armed force in the world, yet attack after attack has occurred even on our own soil, and close to nothing has been done about it.
A solution to this would be for government, especially our executive branch, to get off their behinds and put these monsters in their place. I don't think it would take more than a swift kick in the butt to get these guys hiding in a cave like the last guy.
7. Child Abuse
To me this is huge. Innocent children who rely on us for protection are abused and killed by the people who brought them into this world. It's a touchy subject, but one that needs more attention.
I believe the right to have children should be stripped of any violent offender of children.
8. Severe Weather
The Planet has experienced some changes that are causing extreme catastrophic disasters all around the world.
A problem like this is something I don’t think I could be close to having a solution for. The best I can offer is that the world needs to treat the Earth with respect.
9. Rising World-Leaders Competitiveness
Countries such as Japan and China or Russia and the Ukraine have been power housing each other now more than ever. It seems that the wealthiest countries have become more nationalistic and less willing to share their economic interests with other countries.
One solution for this would be for the UN to actually do what it was created to do and manage ahead of the storm.
10. Lack of Leadership
To me this is the most true in America. Fifty years ago the President wasn't just a title for some puppet to have while the richest controlled his actions. Now it seems we have no one to depend on for taking this country in the right directions.
I believe a disassembly of the federal government is due. The need for their intervention is far less than the need for each citizen to be given their constitutional rights.
Hi Brittney,
ReplyDeleteAll of your biggest problems were spot on! I really like how you included American problems, not just other countries problems. America is part of the world too ;) I didn't include it, but I think that child abuse is a huge problem. Several of the problems you listed I also had listed. Specifically clean water, which was my number one "biggest problem" as well. I think that if we meet the basic needs first, such as clean water and food, then some of the other solutions to these problems will fall into place.

Hey Brittney!
ReplyDeleteThere are some things I agreed with you and some I do not agree with. You are right about the separation of classes being an economic issue. We don’t seem to have much of a middle class anymore. However, there should be an alternate solution to taxes. Yes, the term, “the richer get richer, and the poorer get poorer” seems true. That’s because the people who are rich, set up their wealth to their children. They can afford to put them through medical school etc. On the Hand, whether or not you were born into wealth doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard for it. Most of the people who have money, busted their butts for it. Entrepreneurs are in this category. Parents who made money are passing down valuable skills and lessons to their children such as curiosity, hard work, leadership, and action. Taxing the rich a high percentage feels like a punishment for hard work. It shouldn’t be like that. It holds people back. What if they don’t want to go to the next promotion, because they will be placed in a higher tax bracket? This is probably why we don’t have a middle class anymore.
I agree with you about pretty much everything else. Child abuse is a world problem that I didn’t think of. Attention to this is important. Except, this is a tough subject to control and offer a solution to. Unless, there was a law put in place. Every baby born needs a social worker to examine parents and home for proper care. This is in place for people adopting children. Why not for everyone?
You should check out my blog list. You will probably find some similarities! http://entuf.blogspot.com/2016/01/worlds-biggest-problems.html
